Arlington Middle School Physical Education Program
The P.E. Instructors would like to make you aware of the expectations for AMS students. We conduct structured and organized classes. It is NOT Free-Play or Recess. Students are required to dress out in the AMS P.E. uniform, which may be purchased in the bookstore for $25 (shorts $15; shirt $10).
Students are given 5 minutes at the beginning and end of class to change clothes. Lockers are available in the dressing areas. Students may bring a lock for the P.E. lockers or keep valuables locked in their classroom lockers. Valuables should NOT be left unsecured in the P.E. dressing area. Personal belongings may NOT be left over night. Wallets, purses, and all other valuables should NOT be left unsecured in the locker rooms. In the event that the student has no way to secure his/her item(s), they should be checked in with an instructor at the beginning of class.
Students are required to be in their roll call position (assigned seat) at the appropriate time for attendance check and warm-up exercises. Students not in their seat will be marked tardy. PARTICIPATION IS MANDATORY! A student that is ill must have an excuse from a parent/guardian. This will be valid for one week. Any illness that prohibits participation longer than one week requires a physician’s note.
Grading System:
Student grading will consist of dressing-out, participating, instructor evaluation (NOT on how well the skill is performed, but on how much of an effort the student puts forth), and written and/or practical Quizzes and Tests. Each student is given one “Freebie” (a day in which they don’t dress out, and are not penalized), each nine weeks. Each time a student does not dress out after using their “Freebie”, 10 Points will be deducted from the overall grade. Students will receive the grade of: A, B, C, D, or F. Conduct will be recorded as: E, S, N, or U.
Gym Supplies:
1)P.E. Uniform
2)Tennis/Basketball Shoes ONLY
Gym Rules:
1)CHOOSE to follow all Rules.
2)CHOOSE to show respect to all People and Property.
3)CHOOSE to use all equipment properly (with instructor’s permission).
4)CHOOSE not to bring food (candy/gum) or drink into the gym.
5)CHOOSE to bring P.E. uniform and shoes.
We want Physical Education to be a positive and safe experience for all children. We expect all students to do their best and behave in an appropriate manner. Students must respond quickly and positively to teacher directives. Any questions and/or concerns may be addressed on an individual basis.
Send a note to Coach Jeter or Coach Morgan OR all 867-6015. Email addresses can be found on our website.
